Repentance of St Peter

The Confiteor (I Confess)

I confess to almighty God
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned
in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done,
and in what I have failed to do;
through my fault, through my fault,
through my most grievous fault;
therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,
all the Angels and Saints,
and you, my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me to the Lord our God.

We should all remember this. As an Altar Boy it was very important in the 1960’s!

It was also prayed in Latin (“Confiteor.”)

I was too. But why was the name of ‘St Michael the Archangel’ right after the Blessed Virgin Mary eliminated?

The words of this prayer was changed after the 2nd Vatican Council

I still find difficulty remembering the new words, I was born 1946 and at my age repitition of the old ways slips in. Blessed Michael the archangel and blessed John The Baptist and other words sadly all changed.

It still is today, Jeff!!! Even MORE important we say it each day, even hourly. For we do not know the day nor the hour.

Absolutely Divine and embedded in my mind also as an Altar Boy in the 60’s funny how Catholicism never leaves you

When one uses it in private prayer alone one leaves out “and to you my brothers and sisters”.

This is a new version f the Confiteor. Blessed Mary ever virgin, blessed Michael the Archangel, blessed John the Baptist, and the holy apostles Perter and Paul, are missing. During Mass in the traditional way Father is said and not brothers and sisters. A lot of the prayer is missing, and the one in my prayer books is much longer.

I, too would rather ask angels and saints to intercede for me to God, than those like me.

When using this in private prayer, it is absurd to say the “my brothers and sisters” part as you are in PRIVATE prayer. I just drop that part
